Remember the Friends episode where Joey eats Rachel’s trifle without knowing she accidentally mixed in a layer of meat into her Thanksgiving trifle? “I mean, what’s not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!” While Ross is complaining that the trifle tastes like feet, Joey is blissfully eating it up. Well, my frozen layer dessert is three simple layers that all DO go together! Oreos mixed with cool whip, ice-cream, and chocolate fudge. What’s not to like? The only thing to remember when making this dessert is to allow each layer to freeze before adding the other layer on top. It’s a simple dessert to make, but make it a few days in advance. This works well in a 9 by 13 baking dish or in individual ramekins for a fun individualized dessert. If Joey were in my kitchen he would agree that there is nothing in this dessert not to like. Oreos-good. Icecream-good. Fudge-good!
Chocolate Oreo Frozen Delight
2 sleeves of oreos – a regular package has 3 sleeves
1 (8 oz.) container cool whip, softened
1 container (1.5 quarts) quality vanilla ice-cream like Breyers
1 jar (16 oz.) Mrs. Richardson’s hot fudge
Directions: In a blender or food processor, blend oreos until finely crumbled. Pour into a large bowl and mix with the softened cool whip. Spread in a 9 by 13 pan or individual ramekins. You would need 6-8 ramekins. Freeze. Next, let ice-cream sit at room temperature until spreadable. Spread ice-cream over the oreo layer. Freeze. Take the fudge and let it soften in the microwave according to directions on the jar. Let cool so the fudge does not melt the ice-cream layer. Once cooled, spread the fudge over the ice-cream layer. Freeze again. Serve dessert frozen.
